This is a big family car that can still get up and dance on the limit.
The Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupe has a clumsy name, but it promises to bring range-topping AMG performance to a wider audience, with four seats and a 470kW/900Nm twin-turbo V8 engine.
To put its family credentials to the test, Mercedes-AMG has turned to F1 champion Lewis Hamilton and a carload of stuffed toys. We’re not going to spoil the plot, but suffice to say the 4-Door acquits itself well when side-by-side with an AMG GT R and their GT3-racing cousins.
With a 4Matic+ all-wheel drive system and a nine-speed automatic, the massive GT 4-Door doesn’t necessarily seem like a natural drifter on paper, but this video proves it’ll do sideways shenanigans as well.
The GT 4-Door range will touch down locally during the second quarter of 2019. Three versions are going to be available worldwide: the AMG 53, AMG 63 and AMG 63 S. Which of those we’ll get remains to be seen.
