Ever since Ford unveiled its new Edge at the 2018 Detroit Auto Show, the fans have been keenly waiting for the moment when this powerful crossover will hit the market as a 2019 Ford Edge model. They will probably love its ST trim the most, which will definitely bring some innovations and improvements in terms of design, technology and most importantly, performance and efficiency.
When it comes to exterior of the 2019 Ford Edge, this model is going to hit the roads as an attractive mid-size SUV with larger dimensions than its predecessor. This means that the fans can hope for some quite spacious interior. It has been said that the new Edge will ride on the platform shared with the Lincoln MKX. This two-row crossover will be available in standard SE, SEL and Titanium trims, but also the popular ST that will replace the well-known Sport trim level. Of course, the ST will offer the best possible equipment and features. However, even the base model will show some significant updates and improvement in terms of exterior design. Most of them can be noticed in its front fascia where you will find a reshaped sculpted hood that proudly wears a wider black mesh grille. Besides grille, the headlights will also undergo some redesign and appear more angular. They, as well as the taillights, will use the latest LED technology. The new Edge will stand on standard 18-inch aluminum wheels while the Titanium and ST trim levels will offer 20 and 21-inch ones.
Most of those interior innovations and improvements probably refer to Ford’s safety systems and driver assist features since this model will offer the Ford Co-Pilot system. This system includes features such as adaptive cruise control, auto high-beam headlamps, automatic emergency braking, a rearview camera, lane-keep assist, forward collision warning, pedestrian detection, blind-spot information system and cross-traffic alert. Besides safety, Ford is also about to improve the overall comfort inside its cabin. There will be two rows of comfortable and power-adjustable seats that will offer options such as heating and cooling in higher trim levels. The older My Ford Touch infotainment system will be replaced by the latest SYNC3 which provides features such as dual-zone climate control, satellite radio, audio system, Apple Car Play, Android Auto, Wi-Fi hotspot and Bluetooth connectivity.
The base model of the 2019 Ford Edge will use a 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder engine that provides the output of 245 horsepower. However, the ST trim has probably been the most anticipated among the fans. It will come with a 2.7-liter V6 Eco Boost that hits 335 horsepower and 380 pound-feet of torque. The 2019 Edge will be mated to a new eight-speed automatic transmission instead of the previous six-speed one.
